Nebbiolo and Arneis now also in Govone, from what were once the vineyards of the House of Savoy. This is the latest surprise from the Marchisio Family, which meanwhile has just joined Barolo’s most exclusive club by signing her prestigious Vigna Rionda (Serralunga d’Alba). Further new entry, early 2024: two and a half hectares in the shadow of the Royal Castle of Govone, a stone’s throw from Castellinaldo. Historic rows, those of Monteforche, still marked by the historical cippos (Poloneisa and Zaffira, “roses and irises”). What can we say? Yet another demonstration, this, of the extraordinary vitality of the family business founded by Sergio Marchisio: the courage to always look ahead, with unwavering confidence.

Featured is the team’s tenacity after years that were not easy for the entire wine industry. First the Covid stop, then hail, then drought. The response? All focused on absolute quality. Excellence increasingly rewarded. This is evidenced by the conquest of Canada, a highly coveted and selective market. Ditto the shower of awards: from the triumph in Venice for the Nebbiolo bubbles (classic method, ten years on the lees) to the place of honor obtained in the Bio Guide, which enhances the best Italian expressions of green wine. And since the Marchisio Family celebrates the typicality of Roero, here is the latest masterstroke: the hill of Govone.

An important location that smells of history. Illustrious guests: in the 1700s the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau stayed in Govone. One hundred years later the Savoy ruler, Charles Felix, was at home, along with his consort Maria Cristina. It was a sumptuous residence, developed on the basis of Guarino Guarini’s initial design. Today the elegant manor of Govone is part of the eight Castelli Doc (Doc Castles), surrounded by vineyards, such as those of Grinzane Cavour, Magliano Alfieri, Barolo, Serralunga, Roddi, Mango and Benevello. Wine and history: a virtuous circuit, pure delight for international tourism.

A growth that has become conspicuous, in recent years: «Today, to the many visitors we offer the immersive experience of our brand new winery, in Castellinaldo, surrounded by the vineyards enveloping the cellar». And meanwhile, year by year, the offer continues to be enriched: always new labels, from the now 25 hectares under vine. In the foreground, amphora winemaking: Nebbiolo, Arneis and Riesling. «These are precisely the three grape varieties that we will now also raise in Govone. In part, production will be increased right away. Then in the new rows we will reach full capacity within 3-4 years». Another special toast, then: to His Highness, the best wine of the Roero.
