Those who know them know that the Marchisios mind their business: they prefer facts to talk. Of course, praise is always nice. And so do awards. They were indeed many, even in a difficult year like 2024, the last in a challenging series. First the Covid, then the hail, then the drought. And finally the rain: so much, too much. Yet, again the best was brought home, at the cost of much effort. That is why the awards are worth double: they certify the effort made to achieve absolute quality. Personality, style, fidelity to the territory. The best expression of native grape varieties. Organic and biodynamic wines, often vinified and aged in ceramic amphorae.

And it is precisely the amphora that was awarded in the Wine Hunter Award at the Merano Wine Festival: on the shields the Costa delle Rose 2022, Roero Arneis born and raised in ceramic. Still on the podium is the amphora, with the Golden Leaf awarded by the Organic Guide: among the excellences to be reported in 2025 is Langhe Pinot Noir 2022, vinified in ceramic. The Burgundian red was awarded a tie (another Golden Leaf) with the Faiv Brut Blanc de Blancs 2014 sparkling wine, classic method, ten years on the lees. The same bubbles also bewitched Wine Hunter critics: again, Faiv 2014 (100% Arneis) won the Gold Medal at the prestigious kermesse in Merano.

From Decanter, meanwhile, Bronze medal for Francesca, a sumptuous Roero Riserva 2020: the great international magazine awarded it 89/100. Further awards, again in the Organic Guide, also went to other Marchisio Family labels. As many as 5 Green Leaves to three amazing wines, all born in amphora: the Langhe Riesling 2022, the Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d’Alba 2020 and the Roero Arneis Costa Delle Rose 2022. The latter is joined by the “twin” Roero Arneis Costa Delle Rose 2023, vinified in steel (four Green Leaves, in the guide). Dulcis in fundo, Bacchus’ recognition (89 points out of 100) to Langhe Nebbiolo Mungalat 2023, just landed in Canada.

The focus of Alain Lebel’s network, founded in Quebec 20 years ago and aimed first and foremost at the French-speaking world, confirms the appreciation for Marchisio Family wines even in a particular market such as Canada, which is severely restricted. Today the Bacchus magazine network extends to 20 different countries, boasting nearly one hundred thousand subscribers. «All news that we welcome with enthusiasm», say Sergio Marchisio and his daughter, Francesca: «The many reports we have obtained confirm that we have been working for many years on the right path».

This is also testified by the very recent “Vestire la Barbera” award given by RossoBarbera to the Marchisio family’s Castellinaldo Barbera d’Alba, for the most beautiful label. Pure pleasure, tasting it perhaps in the company’s brand new winery, enveloped by the vineyards. There are so many treasures of 2024: for example, the super sparkling wines (Arneis and Nebbiolo) uncorked after something like 25 years. This will remain a vintage full of records: for the first time, the fabulous Barolo Vigna Rionda was presented at Vinitaly; this wine puts the Marchisio family in the élite of “barolists”. And the future already leans toward the new vineyard planted in Govone, from which Arneis, Nebbiolo and Riesling will be born. There’s plenty left over, to toast a splendid 2025!
